Choosing an Image

1. Open Chrome

2. Find for an image in Google Images

   • Include the words silhouette or outline in your search
   • Photos do NOT work well for this process.
   • Select a clear image with simple lines.

3. Click on it to get a larger version and use two fingers on the track pad to open the menu (or Right-Click on a mouse) to select Save Image As...

4. Give your file a good name, like ”Red Sox Logo” ****(or something you will remember) and save it in your ”Downloads” folder

Bringing an Image into Illustrator

1. Open Adobe Illustrator

2. Create a “New file”

3. Choose the size of your design:

   • For vinyl, think about the size that you want your sticker to be (ex. if it’s for your laptop, think about (and measure) the size of your case

   • For laser cutting, a good size is 24" x 12" as that is the size of our small laser cutter

4. Go to File —> Place

5. Bring in your image from the Downloads folder and click “Place”

6. Click in the top-left corner to place your image in illustrator

   • If you want the image to fit in the space:
   • If your image is too large:

Image Trace in Illustrator

1. Window —> Image Trace

2. Under “Image Trace Preset,” choose “Black and White Logo” (there are other options here that you can try if this one doesn't work well with your image)

3. Choose “Expand” which is on the right toolbar, top toolbar, or by going to the very top and choosing Object —> Image Trace —> Expand

   You should see this blue outline around your logo

4. Make sure the entire logo is highlighted and do the following:

   • Find Properties in the right toolbox

   • Change FILL to be empty (icon is a red line through a white box)

   • Change STROKE to black

   • Change STROKE to 0.1pt

5. File —> Save As…
